OBO, I'd be interested in hearing a review of those pumps once you have them in service a while.

I have a similar air pump (90w) which I put in a box to try and insulate the sound. After a couple of hours it got so hot that one of the solders inside the pump melted and the pump died.

I'll give the air pump a good run this weekend and see how hot it gets. TCL I have been running one of those water pumps for the last two months. They move a lot of water for very little power. Impressed so far.

The pumps came from Age of Aquariums, the spiders came from Rupe.

Thanks for sharing... I was about to get a smaller Laguna pump (9000) for more than I would pay at Age of Aquariums...

You need more water in that new tank OBO, just in case it rains again!! You are not allowed to make the same mistake twice.

"He who has never made a mistake has never made much." but old Narrogin saying......

"He who makes many mistakes never makes much" :shifty: :shifty:

Looking very impressive Colin.

So in your opinions (Rupe, Colin) is installing the indexing valve at a lower height better or up at the height of the grow beds better?

I've got mine installed sitting above the height of my grow beds and I was wondering if you have discovered any draw backs to installing them lower?

(The reasons for me installing mine where I have are varied and complex, part of it has to do with one of them being fed only minimal pressure from gravity feed from the fish tank, there isn't enough pressure to seal the indicator cap so water leaks around the top and I like having it drain into the grow bed under the valve rather than to the dirt.)

But with greater pressure directly from a pumped feed, they tend to seal up better so the above problem is probably a non issue. But I'm still interested in your opinions.

My configurations dictated they be mounted higher TCL... but I'm considering a lower position on the "barra" (now Silver perch holding) system...

Will be interested to see what Colin says... and how they go....

Depends somewhat on pump/head considerations... hence flow ... i guess...

In OBO's case... he's running such high volume pumps that he has/is switching to high flow valve stems...

I actually have one set up where I have switched to the high flow stem because it is running a powerful pump. But I still have the valve situated on top of the grow beds.

I have one other (my new 300 gallon) install that is having a bit of difficulty and I was wondering if I would be better off changing the way I'm running it.

The first valve on the other system leaked around the indexing head, it seemed that the oring was being sucked back down on the shaft when the pump shut down, during the reverse flow drain back. This valve has not done it yet.

Where are those high flow valves rupe?
