"Hapas " are often used instead of floating cages in the pond. I just have a preference of floating, others don't.

As I slowly build my systems daily I realize that for many in this country it is so much easier (and more fun) to burn and loot and destroy than to build. They want everything, they want it NOW and they don't want to work or pay for it. The conspicious consumption of our political and business leaders is merely fueling this dissatisfaction with their lot in life. Since independence in 1994 most have just been sitting on their arses waiting for prosperity to just fall into their laps.

My dreams of introducing small sustainable AP solutions to needy communities get somewhat dashed when I ponder this "Lottery" mentality.

Thank you for your thoughts,

WHAT A WASTE.

synapto ,, Minus the vilence and looting , I have similiar problems helping the poor in North east Thailand. My wife's family is very poor. I have struggled and struggled helping them. Firstly they are poorer than they shopuld be because my father-in-law gambled away the family home ,, sheesh I can forgive that , I've made more than a few error in my time. Shortly after marrying my wife i purchased a lovely piece of land in her parents home town and had a small house built on that land. It's about 1000 square metres and i got a tractor in and had trhe land "tilled" so trhey could grow vegies. OH dear ,, why would they bother ,, just ask daughter ( my wife) to send money each month.
I let this go on for a few years and then said F*** that ,, they should be looking after themselves. They already have a house free of charge ..... . My wife was very angry about my decision and started to ,,,AHHHH ....., miss-direct our fiunds so she could still send the money ( notice i didn't say STEAL). It didn't take me long to realise what was going on. Next we ( actually my Father) decided to buy 5 acres less than 300 metres from their house. This land had 2 very large , 5 medium and 3 small lakes on it designed for fish farming. OK , I investigated what grew best and Tilapia was the go ..... I decided my wifes youngest brother ( 30 years old) could manage this ( he had no job)..... I asked if he would like to be manager and run that for me ..... his answser ,, DON'T blame me when everything go's wrong ,, oh yeh GREAT attitude. I can't visit very often because of work commitments ,, mate all i can say is if he wasn't my brothyer in law he would be fish-food,,,,he did sweet NOTHING for 6 months ..... fed the fish maybe once a week and generally spent his time drinking with his mates whilst being paid as manager.

It's a twisted world we live in. I'd love to find some poor people that are actually willing to work to earn a good living ,, I do , I work 10 hours a day 6 days a week and also run an ebay business.
I'm tired of feeling sorry for people that are poor by CHOICE,,, they can go get stuffed ,, i want to find ones that are poor from no opportunity and will work hard to better their lives.

OH ..... maybe i should have put this in a SPIT the dummy thread:)

No one would buy a Chappo,,,,Chappo's cost a lot of money to grow out,,,,Beer and cigarettes alone cost thousands per year. Then on top of that ,a Chappo requires yearly trips to Thailand in order to reduce it's stress levels. Chappo's ,althoughintelligent, can also be very annoyingly stubborn creatures that regularly annoy the begeez's out of people.
All up,I'd not be selling OR buying any Chappo's.

Chappo, I can make your wish, to help the poor who want to work, come true and you can collect interest too.
This is an overview website but there are links there to the real deal, if you're interested. Me, personally, I'm a hands-on kind of person and I want to be there helping. I offered to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and went to a couple of their training seminars but it just didn't work out this time, I had a conflict with prior engagements. Still, it's something I plan to do.

WOW,,I got really excited reading the first 5 words,,LOL :geek:
Actually Angie I've planned out 2 options ,one of which basically incorporates what your talking about. I've applied to the Thai government to support low interest loans for poor families to get an AP system. There is a lot of redtape and paper-work to still go through but the department of Agriculture and the BOI have shown more than alittle interest in this.
Option 2 , is something along the lines of Janet's commune,,,I've got plenty of land and Lakes I just need willing workers. I am toying with the idea of people buying into a large AP system using a labour commitment rather than cash. It get's complicated measuring labour input,,but I think it's worth a try.

I'm going to help these people even if I have to knock them on the head and drag them into it

Well this week I've mastered (jokes) plastic welding. The growbed ends have now been cut to size and I have started welding them into place. The procedure is as follows;

* First glue the support ring in place with PVC weld.
* Then glue the half moon PVC end into place.
* Then when dry, plastic weld along the seam on the inside and outside.
* Sand off all of the rough spots with sandpaper.
* Seal inside and outside seams with marine silicone.

I will be very surprised if these joints leak.

I am using a Metabo 2300W Heat Gun with a reducing and plastic welding nozzles and PVC welding rods. It can heat up to 650 degrees c.
