One man commercial system

If i get this system worked out it will represent 1/5 of a one man AP system or 8 hours. or how i will be spending my sundays for the next year. once i get that perfected i will get a loan for the full 40hr a week system and quit my job. Hopefully i can get a 10 year run witch is not to bad.

this is a cut and paste from google " On average, farm household income has been roughly comparable to the median for all U.S. households since the 1970s. In 2004, the most recent year for which comparable data exist, the average farm household had an annual net income of $81,480, while the average U.S. household netted $60,528."

So a 10 year run should get me average net income of $81480*10= $814800 the big question is what am i willing to invest to get .8 of a million???? a big question indeed.

So if you're lucky enough to be in the 4% left operating, then you have to hope that you are at the "average" income level... 2% might be getting hardly enough to scrape by while 2% might be doing pretty well.

Overwhelmingly the stats say that you will fail.. But don't let this hold you back, just don't be making plans for how you're going to spend all that money, because odds are there won't be any money.

Is that you Joel?? last i remember you were on the most awesome road trip. how did it go my old friend. I think the odds are in my favour though. If you remember i was one of your earlier members and i have stuck with it for all this time, looking at different ways to do this. i think i hit the hail on the head with this system. i got the stability and robustness of soil and still the benefits of not having to worry about irrigation, fertilization OR WEEDING. the odds are i make some money.

nope i am going to sell cheap on the side of the road. i believe good food should be cheap, i will sell as cheap as possible. no high markups from me.

I think perfect would be if one system can pay for the development of the next. Then grow with it as a hobby until it prove it's possibilities.
But please put me in the financial picture over there. Here in Mozambique, the minimum salary equates to 100 to 150 heads of salad.

...y'know, most farmers who sell to stores / hotels / restaurants etc only make a tiny amount of money compared to what the end user pays for the goods; the wholesalers / distributors / retailers all take their cut and bump the price up. So even if you're selling produce for less than the supermarkets charge, just by cutting out the middlemen you're probably going to make more per item than a farmer selling to a wholesaler! :whistle:

@green grower i have been looking at this very same problem of getting income from a system to pay for improvements of the said system. In my experience i have found that up to 4000+gals you will have to pay for your systems improvements out of your pocket, or as my friend put it. "pay to learn" and after 4000 gals you will be using more that 8hrs a week. If you are monocropping and wholesaling the system should be at least able to pay its own running cost. if you want to direct market then you have to pay for the labour to sell to the consumer witch is were i feel most will lose out.

minimum wage is about $150us/week here. a pound of parsley whole sales for $4 this system is designed with some tricks like auto feeders. i am hoping to fill fish feeders once a week keeping all my labour down to 8hrs a week with this system that way i should run a profit.

All is finished except for the pumps and controllers i may have to learn some programing to deal with that part. I dont really like Salad mix they bolt if you look at them to hard over here lol. way to risky to leave unattended for a whole week.

@Mel Redcap point well taken i totally agree with you as well. but at this point i prefer the safety net provided by the middle man i have a regular 9 to 5 and only have my sundays to dedicate to this. so its the middleman for now because he will come and collect my produce and pay on time every time i need a stable cash flow right now. BUT if all goes well and i get to expand to a 40hr /week system i will use my weekends to sell direct to customers.

I've learned long ago about 'the good ole boy' club. Failure is inevitable as you pointed out.
Unless you're a member. However, by dumb luck, the gace of God or some other fluke, a few sneek out of the box which holds those 'statistics'. One of the best chances one could have (many know this) "there is strength in numbers" then almost instantaneously forget we're the 94%.
