In struggling with polystyrene and having it beakdown over a year or two I have developed an interlocking plastic raft system.

Each section is 500 x 500mm, but due to the interlocking nature one can make it as wide or long as one needs.

It can be used directly on dams, reservoirs, ponds or in a seperate growing area away from the fish.

Each section holds 49 x 5cm slatted pots which when joined in a square metre can hold up to 208 plants per square.

When the seedlings get bigger the biomass will sink the raft and the plants will be competing for light.

This system allows for easy translocation from a packed section to a more spacious arrangement.

Likely a good concept IF the price-is-right.. but the ability to move is only really as practical as separating the individual sections..
I think that I would like to have had a raft of just holes, suitable for standard baskets... even a matrix of different sizes, such that you could easily remove individual baskets and possibly chose the best size to suit the plant..

Intuitively, I suspect that the real problem will be WHEN the weight of the plants sinks the raft

Hi

Each square metre floats about 10kg on top.

Both the 5cm and 7.5cm pots fit and are easily removable.

The rafts have connecting clips to make it longer and wider

Is this something you're selling, or a repurposing technique you're sharing?

Interesting idea Graham, what type of foam is being used as floats on the underside (the cylindrical pieces)? They remind me of the neoprene plant holders used in hydroponics.
