Hi all,

Some interesting info on the CERES commercial system. Dr Wilson Lennard helped design the system (well, all the flow rates and fish to plant ratio's etc...). Wilson will now be taking over the system to run it as a commercial enterprise. he has already filled orders for 3/4 of the systems production capacity.

Wilson will run it for at least 12 months and run it as a commercial business. It will become his demonstration site and he will be collecting financial data to proove once and for all (I guess), that aquaponics has commercial potential.

The filtration will be modified to remove more solids and clear the water column and lower the turbidity.

It will be intersting to see how he goes with it and whether it can actually make any money.

It is approximately 80 sqm plant growing area.

The fish will be Rainbow Trout, which are far more suited to all year round production.

From my understanding, the system will be open next year for info tours and possible commercial workshops.

Thats not a lot of plant growing area... I wish him luck, we figured in our trials that we'd need about double that area to be anywhere near viable.

Might have trouble sourcing trout this time of year... but not impossible...

Might have a lot more trouble keeping them alive through summer though... although you never can tell with a Melbourne summer...

And, yep 80sqmtr isn't a lot... in terms of "commercial viability"...

But best of luck... more research can only be a good thing.... and Wilson certainly has the knowledge to apply to the project...
