Yes, i will sell the fish as well but they are to be delivered daily. Not planning to store them for any period of time however if it turns out they will be stored for some reason, i will adress that with a freezer or cooler unit etc... The grocery store here has said they have a need for 50 kilos daily and have also been wanting to put a live tilapia tank in the store but as of yet they cannot get anyone to supply them. Of course i have to keep in mind what happens if that changes, and that is where the public markets come into play. At these, i would sell them from a live well.

50kgs a day.... ... that's 18250kg of fish a year....

Frankly I think you'd be better off just doing straight pond based aquaculture, with maybe vege production as a sideline, perhaps by land based irrigation with effluent water...

Running an auqaculture production of that size would be time consuming and demanding enough...

Is all good that the local grocery store wants to buy ,, BUT at what price? . No profit if costs 50 Peso per kilo to grow and they want to pay 45 Peso.
Same with the markets ,, Tilapia are often for sale at a few cents ( Peso / whatever) above cost of production , it simply is SO CHEAP it is not worth growing.

Not really Rupe ....., Tilapia are the poor mans fish ( no offence ) ,, they are so cheap that they are eaten very regularly.
A Family of 4 would take maybe 4 fish of 500 grams ,, that 2 kilo ,, They would eat that at least 3 times per week.
That's 6kg per family ,, 10 families shopping at that grocery per week would be 60 kilo.

We had little problem clearing over 100 kg per day at the markets in Thgailand ( a small town) and we where only one of about 20 sellers. The problem is PRICE ,, we sold at COST ....., a lot of work for zero money.

That is correct, at 50 pesos per kilo the fish will pay for the whole operation including the costs incurred from growing the vegetables and the veggies are where you would make the money. They also want large amounts of fresh veggies daily :)

Yes it is a big grocery store. One of only two large grocery stores in the city.

Current average wholesale price is 80 pesos per kilo.

I have always planned this without accounting for profit from the veggies. Just making sure that the fish will pay the bills and a little extra. I am not looking to become rich, just support myself comfortably and travel once a year :)

Rupert , there's the crunch in places like Philippines/Vietnam/China/ and the poor parts of Thailand ,, 80 PESO per kilo ..... thats about
AUD 2.10 , and produced at AUD 1.20 per kilo. That and catfish are the choice by price rather than preference. The meat eaten with rice and vegetables in one meal and the head/bones boiled with veg for a soup for second meal.
Strange how the world works ,, the richer we are the worse our diet gets.

Bigguyben, You should be proud of yourself ,, you are showing real spirit in such a difficult situation. I hope all go's good and maybe you can travel . Hope we can meet one day ,, maybe in manila or Bangkok , or HCMC.

Haven't read that actual book , but have investigated many similiar findings.
It has taken only one or two generations to destroy our intake of natural food ( Thanks McDonalds, Kentuky fried) but I think it will take a few more than that for us to reverse it.
Some of the statistics used should be taken lightly ,, I mean medical records from Rural China would very likely be extremely innaccurate.
He could have summed it up ,, EAT AQUAPONICALLY :) Fresh fish and veg.
