The holes were there before the ladybirds, but they do look a bit suspect. The holes were made buy a small green caterpillar which has attracted a myriad of other bugs. Cheers Dennis |

I believe your ladybird (bug) should be the good one... From memory, only the 28 spot ladybird is the one you want to get rid of... http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_ladybirds/28-spotted.html |

Aaha! They are the good ones Curnow. It is a little deceiving when they are photographed near so much eaten foliage. One of the photos shows something very tiny to the right and it could be a very small caterpillar or thrip. |

Thanks Faye, Thats good news. It is very interesting watching all the other bugs coming in. We also have 2 small frogs lurking in the GB. They are about 25mm long, light brown with a touch of green and have quite a pointy nose. A great addition to the family Cheers Dennis |

I have never seen the 28 spotted lady bugs here in WA. Does anyone know if they are here? |

Yep, we definately get the 28 spotted one here Burnsy. Keep an eye on your tomato plants, eggplant and potato leaves. They leave a rather unusual pattern in the leaves as they eat them, generally not eating right through the leaf. Once you know the pattern of damage they leave, you can quickly spot when they are back in your garden, removing them by hand works fairly well. |

Thanks Joel, I see the pattern you talk of in the above link. If the ones here have the orange head like the one in the link then I have definitely never seen one, lucky me |

Great that people are looking at the bugs again - there are loads of both beneficial and pest insects in our systems - A previous thread has a collection of insects in it already, try looking at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1743 ... I will post a link to this thread in the other thread as I have no idea how to merge the 2 together... |
