I think it is a White faced Heron Adrian and he will love your fish. I saw a Shag at my top pond the other day. (I thought they were seabirds) He was very calm and not at all bothered to see me. I hope he didn't eat too many of my tadpoles.

We get blue herons, like these

Around here, the thought is that if a heron has no good place to stand to fish, he won't be able to clean out our fish. My goldfish pond is designed with no shallows for that reason.

Very reassuring, Janet. My swimming pool is a minimum 1m sheer drop. The little ponds in front of it may contain a few taddies and platties. My visitor is, as Faye confirms, a White-faced Heron.

Troutman, the question is, did you feed your visitors to the fish?

I doubt the fish would eat them as they are maggot infested things. I think the foxes cleaned up most of what was worth eating.
The fact is that shags are a big problem on most aquaculture farms and even though all my ponds are netted I still get a few find there way thru and after having an easy feed discover they cant get out again.

I don't know about WA but here in VIC, at the very least, you'd cop a big fine for that.

Remember we don't know who's watching.

I thought this was alluding to, if that what happen to the birds after having a feed of your fish, beware of eating them yourself. ( As a joke of course  )
