Is wood ash from home fires safe in aquaponics? Is there any benefit in using this or should I just put it in my compost bin? |

The ash will cloud the water, and is alkaline. Why do you want to add it? The charcoal has a a lot of surface area for its size - high SSA, and wont affect the chemistry or cloud the water, but it will probably float. |

wood ash contains many minerals, like potash and as you said is alkali so could be used to fight acidification (?). it certainly would cloud the water depending on amount, but would no doubt get caught in the growbeds eventually. |

I just have a lot of it and knowing that it has a lot of potash and other minerals was just looking at another use. At the moment I run most of it through the compost bin to reduce acid, and a small amount through the worm farm |

According to me, you can use it in a compost bin or you can use it into the worm farm. Because according to me it is not very beneficial or safe for the aquaponics system. Ever notice that ash is hydrophobic? Forests which have burned can cause greater flooding. I don't know how this fits in with what you are doing, but I found it interesting. http://articles.extension.org/pages/73361/wildfire-and-water-repellent-soils Brian. |

Only thing I'd be wary of is how much of the pressure treated lumber. Sill plates and lumber that comes in contact with ground or buried, is made with some wonderful (NOT) chemical treatments. Anti-fungal properties. Termite resistance. Who know what else!? Adam |
