Post subject:  Troubles with plant growth
The system is been running for 6 weeks. But the plants just survive and don't grow. There is 30 shebunkens about 6cm long in the system, the tank has about 600 l of water. The pump is pumping 45 min in an hour and then switch of for 45 min to give the grow beds time to drain. There is some eggfruit, capsicum, tamato and lettuce plants planted. The fish is surviving very well, water is a bit green with alge and the water level in growbed is also to high. I will fix that. If you can please help me find the problem way the plants don't grow well?

Why not run the pump 24/7? I am running mine that way and it creates O2 saturated water. If I was to run into problems airstones will be added to growbeds. It is however unlikely given the amount of agitation the water gets. Why not fall under the true meaning of Hydroponic and allow it to be working water. Moving water I understand has more energy as well as the higher the O2 content is the less you have to worry about root rot so :twisted:

However I kill fish "premeditated murder in Ruperts words" so be sure to verify my information with other sources :shock:

But a useful lesson, none the less, for people new to aquaponics and a new system....

Get a test kit and use it!..... right from day 1 :D

yep, I would suspect you are not yet cycled up, given you have an algae problem, all the nutes are probably being stripped. Grab a test kit, let us know the readings and we will go from there :)

welcome to the BYAP madness GG...as has been said, it is a little hard to diagnose without knowing the water quality

this is the test kit most of us use
Master Test Kit

it has the 4 main tests required for fresh water

your system is essentially the same as mine GG.

It WILL produce phenomenal growth!

I'm gonna go with test the water, lower the flood level a tad and post your test kit results

what plants fo you have and how big is the tank, is it getting very warm i the sun? you dont look like you have very much water in it.
