Are there different types of plastic? I read that NONE were water grade (as UV supposedly could pass through). Does this not cause a problem for (a) fish tanks growing algae (b) roots being damaged by UV Or is it such a small amount that I dont need to be worried? |

Ibcs are not uv stabilised and left unpainted will after a while go brittle and crack so saying that they should be painted or in the least covered |

I don't think that Water-Grade refers to anything other than what was INSIDE the IBC when first used.. I suspect that a percentage of UV will be transmitted and that is why it is necessary to protect or paint to help stop algae growth.. Largely, IBC's are sold as one use containers, so reuse is not high on the manufacturer's priority list.. .. . |

OK good to know, are there no semitransparent IBCs? I've seen some in videos that were solid coloured (although I suppose that could just be because they were painted...) Presume those ones would be better for some of it, although still presumably go brittle over time? Presume also those 200L big blue barrels dont have the same issues (namely with brittleness)? |
