Can I grow asparagus in rain gutter or are the roots to big?

Recent my back porch roof was damaged in a storm and I had to have it replaced  I had two old 12' gutters I could see throwing away so I mounted on wooden poles on the side of my old dirt garden. I am trying to think of something I can plant in them permanent and asparagus would not fit my current aquaponics system plus I don't want to put in the yard I am wounder  if the root balls get to big for a rain gutter?

if not asparagus what else woudl be good multi year plant to leave in the rain gutters?

I have asparagus in one of my stock tank grow beds. I think the roots would probably need too much space for the gutter. I should also mention that I've had the asparagus in for two years, it has over 100 stems but all of them are small. I'm not sure if this is a nutrition issue or a planting depth issue. I found some references that indicated deeper plantings produce thicker spears. Yet another reason they might not be as good in gutters. Strawberries and Lettuce would probably work in gutters.

I've seen strawberries planted in raingutters. Makes picking much easier.

HUMMM..... ok I was afraid of that . what I found online so far about asparagus is that its a long term planting before good production I had hope the gutters mite work so I could keep them out of the way but guess I will keep looking for something else to put them in

a few more strawberry's never hurts :D I can take some runners form my hanging baskets and plant in the gutters

Scotty isn't a stock tank pretty deep container, how deep of container should I need to find for asparagus :?:

These stock tanks have about 10 inches of media but I was afraid the asparagus wouldn't overwinter with it's feet wet so I planted it higher and let it find the water level it liked. This was before I realized that it would affect the spear size. The spears are getting bigger but I still haven't harvested any and this has me pondering whether it's worth shifting the plant since it's doing well otherwise. Sometimes I just like to sit back and see what happens.

Im building a raised garden bed for the asparagus.
They are there for 20 odd years big feeders that dont like competition and love good drainage and reasonable water even a bit of salt.
I dont think the gutters will be big enough
