Backyard Aquaponics

, I tried to make a 40 gal system over the winter and I believe my issue was that my grow bed wasn't large enough. Now I'm starting a IBC tote that I have filled to 125 Gallons, and the top is filled with 6-7 inches of hydroton. Will this be enough media for that size tank to start a good bio filter?
