Hello, I am working on a starter system. I had started with 3/4" riverbed rock and unfortunately it was too heavy for the supports I have and just about crushed them. Instead of re-enforcing the supports I would rather use a grow medium that doesn't weigh as much. Can anyone tell me how much the clay pellets weigh? I would be using a grow tub, that is 15 gallons in volume and 8" deep. I know that most use the metric system but I'm American and ignorant. LOL, just kidding. Metric measurement = 60 quarts in volume and 20.32 centimeters deep. Can anyone give me an approximate weight of a tub this size with clay pellets? Thanks, |

Here's my two cents Hydroton approximate weight should be just under 1lb per liter... A tub with a 15 gal total volume (approx 2 cubic ft) should require close to 50L to fill... I would guess about 50lbs but plan for some extra. Don't forget the water weight! Hope this helps. |

You should check out Grow Stones, they are a little expensive but a good investment when weight is a concern. They are made from recycled glass and are very porous, which is great for bacteria growth. |
