had some things come up so my large aquaponics project was scraped for the time being :( ...... BUT I am working on a small system right now :D I found a 250 gallon fiberglass aerator tank to use as a main fish tank , I will have a terrace of six 10' long 4" pvc sewer pipes for grow beds (estimate ten baskets per pipe) then form grow beds into a large stainless pool pump housing that will double as a swirl tank and craw-fish (can't find prawns locally) tank . I have 3/4" pvc pipe for plumbing water lines so that is what I am going to use
I want to use the expanding clay media pebbles of course my local home depot or lowes doesn't carry them, only the stone :upset: I'm not sure where else to look her then ebay and they have small overpriced sizes of media so I am trying to figure out how many 3" net pot will one pound of clay media fill up?

PS: I am assuming that the 3.75" net pots would be to large to use in the 4" pvc pipe grow beds there for I am going to order the 3" net pots

If your location information is correct try out your local hydroponics store - http://ezgrowgreen.com/ezonlinestore/index.php - they probably have net pots and hydroton :thumbright:

It takes about 80 to 85 grams of Hydroton. Your results may vary (because of the size) but should be close to this. I think there are about 417 gms per liter based on the weight in pounds (46lbs) of a 50L bag but you'll want to cross check my math.

FYI - I filled to the top of the net pot so you have some leeway.

1 Lb = 453 Gm so each Lb will do approximately 5.3 net pots filled all the way.

thanks that what I needed :thumbright:

at 60 3" net pots I should only need roughly 11-12lbs (that grams kilograms stuff really confuses me some times)

Normally I don't have problems with the conversions but I'm a bit challenged today. Here is the address and phone number for the Hydroponics store if you're still trying to figure out where they are -

604 SW Bayshore Blvd, Port St Lucie, FL 34983
(772) 807-7755

this is all I have done so far, I ran out of pipe strap so my top two pipes are not on , I need four more concrete blocks to raise my swirl tank to correct height, and in stead of buy a 8" pipe to split for duck weed on the bottom I am going to build a wood rack to hold the fiberglass lid that is roughly 36" diameter and 2" deep , I am also going to throw the stainless pool filter top on that rack as a grow bed for some corn , I'll need to run back by ezgrow store and get some of those fill and drain fittings they had for that stuff. using those two lids will take up more space but I already have them so its the cheapest way for now

Oh ya after actual seeing the net baskets they where much smaller then I expected I used the 3.75" instead of the 3" there a good diameter but wish they where taller
