I was thinking about using a 1 ibc system by cutting 12 inchs and flipping it around and using that as the grow bed but adding a swirl filter to it

My question is if I add a swirl filter will I be able to add a little more fish to the system since I have added a swirl filter or does a swirl filter only help with solid removel?

Yes, swirl or radial flow filters remove solids and that let's you stock a bit more fish.

Is it possible to add a swirl filter without a sump? If so, could someone please explain how to set it up on a single ibc system?

I apoligize in advance about my punctuation my keyboard acts up and only allows some punctuation to be used when it feels like it

Do to the design of the single Ibc like the pdf found on here called ibc of aquaponics

How much grow media does it take to fill the single grow bed if yall had to guess?

With that in mind how many more fish would I be able to put in if I put a 55 gallon swirl filter attached to this kind of system?

Im tryin to figure out how many fish I could hold in a single ibc system combined with a 55 gallon swirl filter

Im thinking about adding ether tilapia in the system

or channel catfish and harvest them at a 1 to 1 1/2 pounds

or even both

yes you can do this you would have to have the swirl filter up higher and then have the pump from the fsh tank going into the swirl filter with an inlet pipe going to your grow bed

this is what I plan on doing

depends on how deep your growbed is.. i use a full half of an ibc, so over 120 gallons of media per bed..
with 120 gallons of media i'd grow a max of 15 tilapia, less media=less fish
i have 5 blue tilapia in my single tote system

i'd say none..but people will still push there systems.. add fish and monitor your levels closely.. and be ready to react to bad situations....
you may have to cut down on the amount of food you give them to control your levels and you may find that you cannot keep more fish because the fish still expell lots of ammonia as they breath, and you still need to have surface area to populate with bacteria to consume the ammonia.. not all the ammonia is from "solids" so solids removal is not the be all answer to increased capacity..
that's not to say filtration is bad.. i've just seen lots of fish killed by overstocking..
