I was reading an article the other day and it said they raise talapia and prawn together
because the prawn don't put off enough waste to feed the beds.

What puzzled me was I figured the talapia would eat the prawn?

Someone here will probably know. I would think you could do the Tilapia in cage culture or vice versa and not worry about it anyway.

I would have to read the context of the article but i would expect they are in different tanks in the same RAS.

The tilapia will eat anything that can fit in its mouth, so if the prawns are small, for sure.

If both are adults, I would think the prawns would eat the tilapia. They have big pinchers and are very aggressive

Never thought about running 2 tanks circulating the same water, like two deep water sections of a creek, both separated. That might solve the issue of the prawn not putting off enough waste for the plants. Talapia are proven performers in that regard.
