Hi Everyone, I am new to forum and to the whole concept of Aquaponics. I am considering a basing myself in Southern Europe The Backyard Aquaponics 'Construction of an IBC based Aquaponic System' Video is a marvellous aid to understanding how the whole system 'holds' together. Much thnxs for that being made available. I figure to set up my first 'trial' system based totally upon the Video. Give that a go for maybe 6 months and if it works fine I would hope to move on to larger systems. I would then use that first system in the future as a 'test rig' etc. Just one point I am not so sure on right now. I see no specific mention ref filtering of solids from the fish tank. Is the filtering considered as only needed on larger systems? Or is it figured that both liquid and solids would get pumped out and into the Grow Beds. In which case do the Grow Beds act as a 'filter' and the solids get totally broken down there? Eventually I would like to try a system using the CHIFT PIST method but once again I see little if any mention of filtering. From my admittedly very little reading / researches so far, filtering seems to be something of a 'cinderella' subject. Hope to hear from anyone with the necessary experience in this area. Best Rgds. Hi Factseeker and welcome to the forum. You are correct in thinking that the growbed acts to filter the solid waste from the fish tank. It is simple and effective. Look forward to seeing your system. Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2 |

After circa 40 years getting software up and going - I have to say this looks like a lot more fun. Definitely going to give it a go - start small. My first venture into the capitalist world was at age 7 - I used my fathers greenhouse to grow boxes of nemesias Made enough to buy a small dinghy for fishing in the river out back of the house. So the wheel goes full circle 60+ years later Rgds. FS |
