Hi, My system is going quite well. Got plants growing, basil is huge. Got some tommies from some seeds my son planted. My sump has a significant growth of algae on the bottom. Got bio-slime and some green algae on the pvc in my FT, but no algae blooms, water is crystal clear. PH 7.2 Am 0 Ites 0 Ate 0 80 F (I'm in Phoenix, AZ, USA, it's 103 here fairly constantly) The algae is my sump is just on the bottom, but the entire bottom is covered. I'm concerned that it might be robbing O2 from the water. What can I do? Got some Gambusia in the sump to eat the mosquito larve. Thanks much, Tony |

Oh <3 another member from Phoenix! ^_^ What type of fish do you have (tilapia?)? Some will keep the algae levels down and if it's a thin layer they aren't robbing too much O2 from the water. Slime is from warm waters but we are in Phoenix. I found with more aeration I never see slime. *disclosure* I am also new to aquaponics but I have many years of hydroponics experience and to prevent slime you up the aeration if you can't chill the water. Plecostomus would work if you're worried about algae but they probably require more air. I wouldn't worry about it unless the fish aren't able to keep it down. |

Man I must have been tired when I read/replied. You are refering to your sump. Either put an algae eater in there like the pleco so some small organism that will breed and flourish or create a cover to block out light. (Both works better) |
