I have finally gotten my chop 2 (CHFT PIST). While building and getting everything running I got some trash (leaves/dirt) in FT. My SLO is 3" which I read was appropriate however it is moving water but should it not be cleaning some of the debris out. Should I increase the pitch to the pipe or how far should the pipe be from bottom currently it is about 2". Any suggestions? |

My 90mm SLO will pick up small 30mm leaves etc that gather at the bottom of the SLO at the drainage holes / slits if I lift it from the bottom. I found the uplift force is dependant on the amount of water going into and out of the IBC. It does a fantastic job of getting rid of the smaller particles that the fish stir up as they move around. It would be best if you prevent leaves from entering the tank with some netting, I use an old window screen, so you do not need to 'maintain' this problem at all. My first SLO riser had larger holes and I found fingerling got sucked in or swam up it and spat out onto the growbed. Having it 2 inches off the ground may be a problem. I use a ring of holes at the bottom and some vertical slits 100mm long. If covering is a problem maybe have it go to the bottom of the IBC and cut some wide notches the size of the average leaf. having it closer to the bottom will increase the suction effect on whatever is sitting on the bottom. I noticed if I reduced the amount of holes I have it sucks harder.... More pressure I guess. Diddnt raise water level. Sent using Tapatalk |
