Thanks everyone for the advice and ideas - have some cuttings in soil now and will see how that goes and wait for the flowers to try and get seeds from them - a very interesting plant for sure.

Is like a mild fennel or asparagus and a bit salty - great as a side dish for fish (simmered for a few mins) - and as pickles - haven't tried it in many other ways yet but checking things out it seems it also goes well in scrambled eggs etc.

Sailors and pirates used it for that exact reason - my experiment is working so far none have died but am waiting to see how it goes - pickled a handful 2 days ago and the aroma is quite amazing - salty asparagus/fennel so am looking forward to trying very soon.
