Out of interest, is seeding from an existing system a common practice if you have that available to you? Is it as simple as filling your GB with that FT water and then let it do its thing or do you need to rob a bit of media?

Are you human?: Daughters think not

Been cycling my new system first with goldfish, then pulled them out and started it again with charlie carp and pee. Getting regular readings of ammonia around 1, 0 nitrites every day but readings of 0 to 20 of nitrates. I have added about 80L of water from the community system that has been running for neary 12 months, so dunno if that has helped. Seems weird to get nitrates and never see any nitrites

setting up aquariums (i know its not AP) i would snatch water from a healthy tank, say 20l and use it in my new tank after letting the water in the new tank sit for a day or 2. However i used to heat all my tanks except my redclaw tank. I pretty sure its common (in aquariums) but you do run the risk of spreading disease if your not careful and id assume that would apply to AP too
