Are you human?: most of the time

I know this is a tough question but my catfish have started dying. All my water readings are well within normal ranges. System a year old. We have had quite the range of temperature swings lately. We were in the eighties for sometime then dropped to the sixty's/seventies. The night time temps have been in the mid forties to mid fifties. Water temp went from 64 degrees to a high to a low of 58 degrees. It has been up and down a lot over the past several weeks. Also lots of rain. My system is outdoors. Water has lots of algae but that didn't seem to bother them before. Any suggestions? TJ

Have you salted your water?

You might want to add salt to your water.

No I haven't added salt. Why would I do that and if I did how much per 100 gallons of water? TJ
