im a member of a website that promotes keeping junk from the landfill its called freecycle and they are quite large and in many locations and we all know the imfamous craigslist boards

quite frequently there are free boats just for the hauling away. some even come with trailers for the hauling. today there are 3 ranging from 14-17 feet , 2 with trailers

im thinking they might just make nice free large fiberglass FT's . im talking about open fisherman outboard motor type boats not ones with built in fuel tanks.

but if they will float they should also hold water :D

i like to reuse/recycle things so i wanted to ask you guys about my wacky idea :flower:

it's been a while since anyone has mentioned using a boat as a fishtank or growbed. I can't remember the outcome :dontknow:

hey Johnny

this is the case if it floats then it will hold water you might have a few problems getting fish back out again as there would be lots of laces for them to hide in

and the sturcture of the boat is designed to be under a compression loading and not the other way around
so you might need to bury half of the boat or more ( no mean feat ) to make sure the structure doesnt fail in the not to distant future

something else to consider is that there could be floatation chambers within the boat to make sure it will always float on the surface of the water too ( not sure how relevant this is when it is filled with water ) you might need to check what it is filled with and make sure it isnt contaminated with fuel or oils as this wont be good for your fish

my ideas ... otherwise go for it and start with a goldfish as everybody does with the IBC's to make sure that there isnt anything nasty in it ... and remember to put the bungs in :) been fishing a couple of times with people that havent :D makes for an interesting HSM and a mad scrable to put it in
