Post subject:  Scientific Articles Regarding Aquaponics

Hey guys, I've been reading this forum for a while, but just registered to ask this question. I am in a Biology course right now where I have to do a 30 minute presentation on a subject. I would really like to do it on Aquaponics. However, I need at least 5 primary journal articles on the subject.

From my searching, it looks like most of the articles out there are just descriptions of systems, not really research on components of the systems. If anyone knows any articles that could apply, that would be great. Whether it is an article on using fish water to fertilize plants, or using plants to purify the fish water.

I really want to do this project on Aquaponics, and this would give me an excuse to rig up a small system with my fish tank.

This couldn't hurt
"The higher productivity in treatments with fish effluent has a special importance for small farmers, to whom fertilizers are often cost prohibitive or unavailable."

There are a couple of papers here that you can download here http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/compo ... links.html

Should be able to get a fair bit of info from at least a couple of them.

I have a lot of AP articles that I grabbed from the net, but I don't have all the source links any more. Here's some I looked up for you:
http://www.australian-aquacultureportal ... ndbook.pdf (189 pages)
http://www.attra.ncat.org/attra-pub/PDF/aquaponic.pdf (28 pages)
http://aquanic.org/publicat/usda_rac/efs/srac/454fs.pdf (1992, 7 pages)
http://www.aces.edu/dept/fisheries/aqua ... RAC454.pdf (2006 revision, 16 pages)
http://ag.arizona.edu/azaqua/ista/ista6 ... df/676.pdf (15 pages)
http://www.uark.edu/depts/aeedhp/agscience/aquart2.pdf (10 pages)

If you want to look for yourself, you can google "filetype:pdf aquaponics" - that way you only find PDF publications. Though some websites require payed membership, you can find a lot of free information. Good luck!

Wow, thanks a lot everyone. My professor originally told me that I probably wouldn't be able to do Aquaponics because there might not be enough info out there on it, I think she may have been proven wrong now. I find out tomorrow if she'll accept it.

I actually don't give the presentation for a few weeks now,but she did give the Ok on doing aquaponics for a portion of it. I will be researching the environmental hazards of normal aquaculture, and then I'll give aquaponics as a solution to it.
