:notworthy Yes I have it. Have researched what it is. I am down to one tomato plant that I have pruned. It is the Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus. The images are exact. All the leafs are wilted upwards, have yellow and black spots. I have had to pull two plants, one completely dead.  Any Help would be appreciated!! HELP. How do I kill a virus in my system? I am covering each bed with a thick layer of Felt to kill the knats. |

I'd pull the last plant... You can't really treat the virus, you need to treat the thrips try to break their breeding cycle and keep them away in future. The longer you leave the infected plants there, the more likely you are to spread more of the virus. |

+1 Don't mess with it, ditch the plant and any debris, don't compost any of it or the others (I don't compost any nightshade family plants because of the possibility of carrying over blight as well so virus or no, it's gone). Some viruses can be stable for years so the more you let them multiply the more you jeopardize future crops. |

The tomatoes for sure and personally I'd pull out anything else with thrips on...

Thripes DIE! HA. I think I killed them. I found a recipe using Strong Rosemary Tea and dawn. It said will kill gnats and their eggs. Misted the grow beds. Watched them DIE. who knew?? Now only hoping that nothing else dies lol. By the way - the Felt trick - Does not work for Thripes. I did pull everything out except for my pineapple. I'm not sure they are affected but they are not happy. Now I watch.... Will update in a few hours with an recording of how many of those little buggers are left. Thanks for all help! BuiDoi Wood Vinegar? Okay I had to google.... I think I Can make it! As for the Recipe - I got it from a Blogger I follow on Pinterest. I did edit it a little. Because I am in an Aquaponics System. For this recipe you will need: 1/2 cup Rosemary leaves (I Used 2 cups of Fresh Rosemary) 8 cups water (I used 1 Gallon) 1 tablespoons of liquid soap (1 Teaspoon) Make a strong tea by steeping the water and rosemary leaves for 30 minutes. (I did 40 Minutes) Once it’s cooled, strain and add the liquid soap. Put your brew into spray bottles without diluting. Store it in a cool dark place. I sprayed over the whole grow bed lightly. And heavier on the thripes. You can blow smoke on them and see them jump around.

Thanks for the recipe - From the description you may actually have been looking at Springtails which are detritovores that frequently live in the grow beds in large numbers. Sometimes they get to be a nuisance but usually don't harm the plants. They might be found feeding on dead or dying plant tissue but they probably didn't cause it. |

well i have eraticated he thripes. I am certian from lookig at the dead bodies tht is what the were. i will retreat with the soapy water i a couple of dys but am watchig like aawk for any flying gnats. I made a simple mixture of 1 teaspoon of dawn to a spray bottle of water. it works for the little flickers and the flyers. i found them livig in the green algea.So i also scraped the algea off with my fingerto smash any babies. I know there are more. pulled everythig out. pics to enjoy. |

They are GONE! I have Broken the Cycle. I have replanted 2 beds with lettuces. Total loss - 2 pineapple plants that were 2 years old. 3 Tomato plants. 2 Pepper plants. But lesson learned!! Gnats - BAD! Dawn Dish soap good.
