I have chop system with an SLO in my FT and was wondering if anyone knows how to get the standpipe to drain more quietly. Right now there is a consistent slurping sound that has grown fairly annoying at night. Is there anything I can do to the pipe (possibly add a reducer on top to help funnel water in differently?) to make the sound stop? Thanks

You could try drilling multiple smaller holes in the standpipe at the drainage level

Make it constant flood. Just remove the bell.

Or slow down the water slightly, it might make it break quicker.

I hade the same issue with my system. I just put a cap on it and problem was solved. Not sure how yours is set up so not sure if this is possible for you or not.

After putting the caps on I enjoy the sound of running water instead of the slurping sound.

I stuck a length of 12mm black reticulation pipe down mine. It allowed the air to go down without the slurping sound.

Reduce your water flow to the grow beds, just a little, I had a simular problem with one off my beds, the water was catching up with the drain flow, it started to catch-up on drainage, at the time I was using a old piece of pipe with larger holes, say 6/8mm that came from my fish tank, I replaced it with 4mm holes and it is working fine now, I also adjusted the overflow pipe to my sump tank, I have full control with my system, and what’s even better, I can sit here at my desk and watch and listen to it working, normally, but there is a storm here tonight, so the door is closed and the heater is on,

When we have this problem with the overflow in marine fishtanks we'll put a small piece of airline tubing (1-2 ft long)down into the pipe and tie it off at the top so it doesn't fall all the way down.

What diameter is your stand pipe?
I swaged my 25mm s/p with a beer bottle and a heat gun to allow more flow of water and air. It's still not quiet though.

Had the same problem. What I did was I replaced the second elbow leading to the FT with a T-Joint (one going up one going down to the FT). Then I extended the pipe so that the end of the pipe now sits in the water (muffling the splashing noise). This however did not remove the slurping sound but slightly reduces it. In a desperate attempt to completely silent the siphoning process, I adopted the venturi effect to the T-Joint and it has been working flawlessly ever since plus the added bonus of aerating my FT every time the siphon starts. My system is now completely noiseless!

I have met a few people who when I told them about my AP system say:-

"my neighbor has one of those, do they have to be so they are so noisy?"

I can see a major neighborhood tension developing if AP systems are to noisy.
So it would be good if we can develop some strategies to keep the noise levels acceptable.

One thing I found is having drain pipes submerged in water reduces the noise from both ends.

My neighbors just assumed that I had a fountain, and complemented the sound... When they found out that I was raising fish to grow veg, their response was COOL!

My neighbour on the fish side had the same reaction. Said it sounded peaceful, and got really jealous of my tomatoes.

Plus, when the doors outside are shut, you can't even hear it.

There are worse sounds in the world than water, unless you really have to pee.

Just get a rooster and the neighbours will forget about the AP noise

We used to have free range chickens at dads. And three roosters took up roost next to my bedroom window, I'd finish work at 10pm, get to sleep 1amish, and those little b*&&#$ts would start crowing at 3-4am, every morning.

I learnt how to knock a chicken on the head with them. And one that seemed to just pass out, then jumped up and started running around rather scared. It didn't come back to my bedroom window.
