Are you talking a timer based F&D system??... or a siphoned system?? |

right now i have a pump running continuous and bell siphons it looks like they are cycling about every 15 minutes, not sure what i should be doing. thanks for responding. |

there are different systems. if you have siphons to control the amount of water in each of the growbeds, you can let the pump flow to the growbeds continuously because the growbeds won't be full all the time. The siphons are there so that you won't have to time the pump to turn on or off. Some people have a flood and drain system where there are no siphons and sometimes the flow into the growbed too large for the flow out of the growbed so the owners have to time the pump to turn off so that the growbed can drain to dry a little bit before they time it to turn it back on. There are also systems with both because with some siphons they don't flow fast enough and overflow so they still need timers to control the siphons. technically speaking, the siphons are not working properly and should be fixed so that the timers aren't needed. However, a lot of owners like both either/or for their "coolness" factor or have certain abnormalities (cold climate for instance) that they cannot control. |
