Post subject:  Dam to fish "pond" conversion
So we have finally settled into our little mountain retreat in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. On one of my little expeditions I found a dam that may or may not be on our side of the fence, but from the access to it as you can see I'm assuming the neighbors haven't visited it in quite a while.

So my questions are.....

How/ where do I get the water tested to see if it would be suitable for fish as is?

What do I do to it to improve the quality, to build it up to a level where it can sustain fish life?

Once I get it to a point where I can get fish in there what maintenance/ equipment do I need to keep it running smoothly?

If the dam can overflow into a natural waterway.... then stocking it would probably be frowned upon... or at least very species limited...

Perhaps contact the DPI in your area...

What were you thinking of stocking??

The dam has been constructed in a reentrant so I would have to assume when it rains it would over flow into another source of water somewhere. But there are no permanent creeks or rivers that it flows to. The run off would probably go down to two larger dams at the bottom if the hill that a banana farmer uses for irrigation of his crops.

As far as stocking goes. I'm new to all this so I'm open to suggestions. But I do want something edible not ornamental. Was thinking perch of some sort. Obviously where we are tilapia is a no no.
