Fungus and fin rot... can be treated with salt...

Condys Crystals is a kind of last resort "shock & awe" treatment... more for bacterial infections...

the only reason i ask is that some of our trout have a milky looking coat on the tips of there fins
i will salt our system at 2ppt and see what happens
i was just curious about condy cystals and has anyone used it in a working aquaponics system .
what affect does it have on plants etc

For fungus or fin rot... you need to salt to 4 - 6ppt....

I'd go 6ppt...

About 3 months ago, i took my system to 10 ppt salt as some of my fish had an ulcer. I only left them at that for 1 hour and then did a 50% water change, but i only lost one fish from 80 which i thought was pretty great. 3 months later all fishies are fine. I did all this under instruction from a pro though, and now i'm pretty happy to use the salt if fish aren't doing the proper fish things.

Hope all works out for you.

The above happened due to poor solids removal, now filters in place and things are going swimmingly. :cheers  :

Should be able to find it in a pharmacy, usually with the antiseptics.

If they don't stock it, they should be able to get it in, but be prepared for some questioning.

Local fodder shop told me it was now a banned substance, but I've since seen it at a chemist.. At $10 for 10grams, they can keep it though..
