Hello all, I am new this forum so i hope im not asking a common question. I have just set up a ibc system and i am growing both duckweed and azolla to feed my silver perch (bidyanus). I want to use azolla for its nitrogen 'fixing' ability. The only thing i am unsure of is if the fish actually eat it? has anyone had success feeding it to their fish? |

my jade perch love duckweed and azolla. for smaller fish, the azolla may be a bit big for their mouths my jade fingerlings have eaten ALL of the duckweed in their tank (good thing I kept some spare elsewhere) |

Thanks, I have only just stocked my fingerlings so they are a bit small atm. Im thinking hat i might crush up some azolla and feed it to them so they get used to it. were you on ALS Jaymie? your pic looks familiar? |

I was thinking an easy way to make it easier for them to eat is to dehydrate it and toss it in a blender, now you can pinch in amounts for your fish like store food. I'm going to do that for duckweed and azolla for the cold months. iPhone Typos |

Me none yet. I'm in the process of building my 4000 liter tank and plumbing right now. I will be going with Koi to start with and I've been looking at types of food to feed them that I can grow and harvest myself. So I was considering how to feed them when they are fry and dehydrating it will preserve it for the winter months and I can blend it up to a flake or close to a course powder consistency. I was going to do this with a few other fruits and veggies to give them a more complete diet. So I've been looking at a few types of duckweed and similar type of plants to grow. iPhone Typos |
