FRESHWATER COBBLER
Tandanus bostocki (Moore River to Frankland River).
Suculent, melt in your mouth delicious.

Perhaps the reason they taste so good here is the cold water.
There is absolutly no taste of mud when they come from the Blackwood river in the South West of Western Australia.

Salmon cats have a 'normal' tail tandanus all have 'eel' tails. you're probably thinking of tandanus tandanus or some other variation.
Yes they look the same. Or at least very similar.

I think the photo doesn't show its tail properly.

I have heard they called it a silver cobbler so people would be more interested in eating them, ridding off the good cobblers name.

Silver cobbler definitely taste crap compared to salt water cobbler (10/10), and fresh water cobbler from the Brunswick River WA, (before Worsley Alumina had some caustic spills) were pretty damn good too.

In keeping fresh water cobbler, what is the highest temperature that anyone has kept them alive in??

I kept a few Tandanus here one year and also found the growth to be very slow and they showed little interest in pellets so I had to keep feeding them worms. They survived both summer and winter water temps no problem so are good in that regard. In the end they went blind which I presume was due to too much light getting in the tank as in nature they tend to be nocturnal and hide away during the day.
The local (WA) Tandanus Bostoki is very similar to the eastern states Tandanus but like most Western Australian native fish dont grow as big as their eastern cousins.
They are a great eating fish but the downside is that the head takes up about 40% of the body length so what looks like a big fish gives you only a fairly small feed.

In keeping fresh water cobbler, what is the highest temperature that anyone has kept them alive in??

i have kept Tandanus T & B through summer in water temps up around 35c for short periods, that's near Kalamunda.

I lost a couple the first hot days we had but the remaining ones have survied a few days of 40+ alright .The water temp got up to 27.

A cobbler is also a pie

I have given up on cobblers ,all the ones that I had previously eventually got white spots and died even though other fish in the tank and they were OK.I have recently got sixteen of various sizes and they started to go the same way .also I could not get them to eat.I salted the water and that only worked for a couple of weeks and then they started again so when I only had six left I decided that they were a lost cause and disposed of them.
If you look back at other posts you will get the idea that everyone else had a similar experience.

We have some Tandanus tandanus and they have been ok so far, fairly slow growing.
