If this is correct your 1000 people will need an output of 1,500 tonnes per annum. Don't get confused with output equalling input; you will have plant loss so head for 2,000 tonnes output. This is a very big system needing very big support and a very big wallet.

Are you kidding, Mazarron? Other than perhaps sumo wrestlers - who are not average humans - I doubt if many humans would have the capacity to put away 3000/365 = 8.22kg of food per day on a regular basis! Where did you pull that figure from?

18 lbs a day?? Does that include beer? lol I think it's around 3-4 lbs per day...so 3-4000 lbs per day for his 100 people question. or 1095- 1460 per annum per person, totals of 10950- 14600 for the 1000 people per year. That also include liquids, but not sure percentages on that end. I would guess at least 30% by weight. Either way, a lot of lettuce.

I've tracked protein, carbs, and calories for myself and various athletes, but no idea what the weight was. I do know that in a hot climate, a endurance athlete(soccer, tennis, basketball) will easily consume over a gallon during a game/training session. This would include pre game/workout hydrations as well. Add that 8.3 lbs to the equation.

Coachchris, water may well be a required input to the human body in order to sustain life but, come on, it is hardly a food!

Besides, to the best of my knowledge, commercial AP facilities don't churn out potable water as one of their outputs.

PLJ- of course...i was just trying to arrive at the 18 lbs per day figure. Even at 1 plus gallon of liquids, we're still around the 12lb figure?? For many people, me included, beer is a food, and also a liquid. lol
