Hey guys and gals I am chasing a silver perch around 15-25cm to swap for a rainbow trout 25-30cm. I want it to eat the algae growing in my FT.

I hope your not thinking of putting the Perch in with the Trout you have. It will be dead in less than a week if you do!!

Really?

Ooops...

I was at Golden Ponds this afternoon, and somehow took confidence in the guy there suggesting that the trout and SP will be fine together?!

So, I now have 10 SP and 18 trout together in my FT. Is this inviting trouble, Troutman?

I think I will heed your advice before that of someone who is just about to make a sale!

I left some Silvers in when I introduced my trout... over time they all carked it...

I thought it might have been due to being out competed to the feed... but I've been fishing them out one by one for nearly a year... and they've been growing...

Almost always I noticed them swimming on the surface... and being harrassed by the trout... and think that the trout just bully them to exhaustion...

BTx, I think the silvers need to be at least much bigger than the trouts for the trouts to leave them alone. If they are the same size now, then in 1-2 months the trout would be bigger... Oh well, just some expensive treats for the trouts I suppose.

Trouts even bully the trouts. I had two same size trouts in a small tank and later I found out only one was eating majority of the food. The other one is hiding behind the SLO pipe most of the time and I actually witnessed the other one (bigger one due to hogging the food) chasing the smaller one.

So I think silvers will have a similar fate...

Then again, even if your silvers do survive the winter with the trouts... if you have only one tank, I presume you will be putting your barras you have in the aquarium now into the tank in summer right??

So the Silvers and Barra combination?? Not sure about that one... Anyone advise??

From what I have seen if you add Silvers (no matter what size) to a tank where trout are already established the chances are they will all be dead within a week. If the Silvers have been in a tank for a while and are settled in then it seems that you can add the trout and the chances are that they will co exist ok providing that the Silvers are of a reasonable size.

Maybe the SP will make it into a split between the indoor window AP and the aquarium!
