I want to get some bubble wrap to insulate my polytank with. It is $ a metre up to 10 metres, or 105 for a 100m roll. Does anyone want to go shares in a roll? I am happy to take up to 40 metres (would be the same price as if I bought 10), and I'm sure it will come in handy for something

But I'm not in adelaide. :(

Any questions though...? there are lots of different types/bubble sizes etc. I can give you pricing estimates also.

Personally I reckon what is called a P20S (depending on the supplier) but that is a 20mm bubble (not the little 10mm kind) with film on both sides would be the best. The double sided-ness means the bubbles are more resistant to breaking, the 20mm size will allow more void space/insulation. You can also get the film strengthened. Basically it will cost about 10-15% more each time to change something from the norm.. (ie. every time to get thicker film, double sided etc). But it will be much more hard wearing. If you are really really keen you can also get 'thermal' bubble which has a foil laminated on one side of the film which is meant to stop heat transfer. However, I reckon you probably don't need to go that far.

double sided bubble (note it's like the sheets sandwich the bubble inside)

The best way to get a good price is to a) ring around and haggle! cos there is usually craploads of margin in bubble... b) call a mate who works in some sort of factory/warehouse/distribution/surfboard manufacturers and ask them to buy you some, bulk prices are vastly different c) make sure you take a ute or a 4wd because bubble rolls do not fit inside a corolla sized hatchback (trust me!)

A rough idea on price...

P10 1.5 x 100m (10mm bubble, standard) our to the public price is $75.60 + gst/roll (industry price could be $10 or more cheaper depending on quantity)

P20 1.5M X 100M $85.90/roll + gst (as per above for industry variance)

P20S 1.5M x 100M $103/roll + gst (massive variance for bulk)

Anyway, hope that helps. I am a bubblewrap nerd.

Cheers :)

Monya LOL :) Thanks (i think...) Good luck with it. :)

Steve - that's me! this cracks me up.. maybe I can be an 'extreme contributor' for bubble wrap info (yay).. cos I really am still a poor lil 'newbie' when it comes to AP.. :)

veggie boy - I've not seen that application before.. but if you can find out more info, I can see about sourcing etc... I reckon the thermal stuff (foil laminated) would do the trick.. i have a customer who uses it to line the inside of shipping containers with.... both single sided foil laminate and double sided (two foil laminates with bubble inbetween)..?

One more bubblewrap fact for you BW fans...: for those nerdy types who like pink... pink bubblewrap is anti-static!
