Hi LazyK, What is the difference between the input and output (temp wise). I have silver perch babies and they went dormant 2 days ago. I am looking into solutions to heat the water. |

What wattage is it? I don't imagine it is very high power, since it connects to a garden hose, which is not really designed for high water temps. Keep in mind that it takes not far short of 5kWh to heat 4000litres of water by 1 degree. |

Thanks Gunagulla, that was going to be my second question. What wattage I need to heat 800 litres of water? I am guessing, this is going to be costly to run. My temps going down to 8C in winter, if I can get it to 14 or so, it should be alright. I don't want to kill SPs with 8C temp. |

About 5.5kWh to heat 800 litres of water from 8 to 14C, + whatever is lost to the environment while you have it running. Long term, you'll have to add enough heat to make up for whatever the heat losses are each day. If it was say 5kWh, then you'd be running a 500W heater for 10 hours- and you'd want to run it over the period to minimise temperature range, ie at night. Running it during the day will tend to increase the diurnal temperature range. |

Sorry guys I didn't get an alert on the replies. It's like an aquarium heater so it goes up to 70F-90F it has an adjustable temp. The correct 110v one I did purchase is not a electric hog and I just installed it between a buried sump and fish tank (175gallon) to take the chill off. It's on a 175gph pump so not a huge water flow. My fish are in a chest freezer so at night the lid is shut to help control heat loss. |
