Hi!

Starting to set up our first ever AP system and Id like some cheap-ish fish to get the system started in case I stuff up and kill them all!

Anyone in Sydney have something that would fit the bill?

Thanks in advance! :flower:

Hi SC, I don't know about Sydney, but here in the US we can get what they call feeder gold fish at most pet stores. They are small fingerling gold fish and are used as live feed for larger predator aquarium fish. They are cheep and grow fast, and are perfect for starter systems. Hope this helps

Hi. I've seen posts from Australia where people use gold fish to start then switch to something edible.

But silver perch, if that's what you' want in the long run, are hardy - a good beginner's fish. I introduced mine after the tank was well cycled. I ordered about twice as many as I felt was the right stocking rate, on the assumption that I'd kill a few but all survived.

If you don't overfeed, don't turn your pump off and forget to turn it back on, test your water and seek help on this forum as needed, you (your fish) should be OK.

Thanks!

I'm setting up a sole IBC temporarily as a goldfish tank to keep our kids excited about the Aquaponics. Will investigate where to get goldfish.

Dave - we are planning on stocking Silver Perch so thank you for that info
