Looking for any number of yabbies to seed the dam at work (school farm) with. Not fussy on numbers or size. I am in Kalamunda, work is in Gosnells but can collect fro other areas. Must be yabbies, not marron or gilgies.

Cheers,
Mike

Hiya Burnsy. Can't help out with the yabbies, (wouldn't mind a few myself) but might take this opportunity to bump you for an update on your system... :D

An Opera House trap and the nearest housing estate lake... problem solvered!

You're in Kalamunda, I lived there when I was teenager and there was an open stormwater drain that ran through the middle of Stirk park that always had running water in it and it contained yabbies, but I've just looked on the googly and it looks like they've removed the drain, there is a the lake there though, try that.

Or down at the weigh station in Woodbridge there's a guy that sells live yabbies, you pay by the kilo, I once bought $10 worth and got 13 yabbies, much cheaper than $6 each at pet shops, but that was a few years back.

If you wanted to save yourself the cost of the opera house net, you can use 2 liter cool drink bottles. I have some pics in my IBC thread somewhere...

I stuck the Opera House in for a couple of hours and got three healthy females... you want?... or is it my Cod's lucky day?

I can put the pot back in after work and try and get a few more if you want, maybe even a bloke or two.

You still want some yabbies Burnsy?

I got the young bloke to drop the pot back in the local pond this evening... we got another 7 yabbies if you want them, 10 in total, including one lucky male.

Let me know before 9am if you want them and I can take them to work in Belmont so it's easier for you to pick up... otherwise they are Cod food.

Out of ten I only managed to get him one male Charlie, so the gene pool will be a little shallow... maybe put a couple of males in an express post satchel

Big thanks to Mr Damage for the yabbies and for chasing me down seeing i did not see the replies. They are happily in the dam.

Will try and find another dozen for another source or two to expand the genetic pool.

I also grew up up the hill Hayden and now have whistlepipe creek running through my front yard, only glgies in there. Stirk Park drain is lined and covered for the most part now and the lake is a stagnent duck pond. I have never found any yabbies in any waterways in the hills in my years rowing up only yabbies. I believe they are in the Canning and will probably throw a net from work in at Gosnells in the next week or so and see what we get.

Skeggley, which system do you want an update on? I am not at Westfield for the rest of the year and everything is still ticking along there with SP and Koi. I did change out the gravel and blue metal to hydroton earlier in the year.

At home, koi are happy, still only one grow bed that needs a mate and grund that is not paved and a pond with the header not glued on.......... one day. Dirt garden is cruising though but you will have to look at backyard farming forum for an update on that :thumbleft:

We lived on Mundaring Weir Rd opposite Jorgenson Park golf course and I used to walk through the bush at the back of the park down to Piesse brook, or ride my pushy down Hummerston Rd to the brook (fun going down, but prick of a ride back up) and collect gilgies, but the ones on top of the hill at Stirk park were yabbies... I used to prefer collecting them because they were hardier than the gilgies

P.S... Did you go to KSHS Mike?

If I remember I'll PM you my year 10 class photo from KSHS, see if you recognise any of the heads!... a few of my class mates came from Walliston and Bickley, so you may know them.
