Looking to find a supplier in the US as local to Texas as possible to buy coir and hydroton in bulk. Anyone know of any? It's important to us to grow our aquaponic systems by being socially responsible and practicing what we preach about shopping local! |

Any idea where the hydroton is coming from? Not USA! That is not the only reason I used river rocks in my system. The price is also had something to do with it. |

Although hydroton has recommenced production... the clay source from their new pit is still causing "salt" problems... So it's unlikely you'll find a bulk supplier of Hydroton... You might be able to source some "Canna" clay balls though.... Coir should be available all over the place... |

coir is usually sold at pet stores, but the pet store variety isn't washed to remove salts. not a big deal though, just leave it out in the rain on a piece of canvas. eco earth is a good brand of coir from the pet store, and you can order it in 8 cu ft boxes. personally, i just ordered mine from offline. i try to shop locally as much as possible, but when i could get coir for 1.20 a brick online compared to 3.67 from the pet store, i just couldn't pay the extra money for the 350 bricks that i needed. |
