Have a look at these two items on ebay. They are both the same 900L plastic pond, may be cheap if you can pick them up (NSW). Auction 1 Auction 2 Only an hour and a half left on the first one. Nova |

Yeah... had a look at then before Nova as I'm only 125km away and could pick up... Usually go for $150-$250 on eBay... They have a 1200ltr model as well but both the 900ltr and the 1200ltr are the same height ... 520mm and have large ridges moulded into the bottom. Allowing for filling to about 120mm from top only leaves about 400mm depth... wondering if that's enough for a fish tank by the time you pump out to your growbeds... could use a pump from sump type design though. Second concern is the moulded ridges on the bottom, wondering if they would become a solids trap over time and would require manual cleaning. Maybe they would actually spread the solids towards the sides and circulate them with the pump action?? Pic of the 1200ltr showing ridges...

and the ridges would cause no end of problems with solids IMHO |

use them as grow beds, the ridges wouldn't matter then. They would be a little deep, but, maybe don't fill them all the way |

yeah, as growbeds they would be good, so long as you could find a flat spot on the bottom for the standpipe/drain etc |

Did we decide that a grow bed could be too deep? too shallow maybe. My understanding was that the 00mm was to allow for solids accumulation and "processing" Do we think deeper than 300mm could be ok? |

I think it is Possibly I should have said "some people might think they are too deep" |

I don't think any depth is too deep for a grow-bed. Only issue is not an optimum surface area fro growing plants. |

could try putting the drain in through the side, but I prefer going straight out the bottom where possible |

Interesting - they quote 900l, but when using the internal measurements, it will only hold 700l (1855 * 755 * 500mm). External measurements (2000 * 900 * 500 = 900l) |

LOL, minor details, huh? LOL and those ridges in the inside would make it a tad smaller again |
