Post subject:  FS or Swap - 2V 660AH Battery Cells / 12V 660AH Battery Bank

Hi all,

Anybody looking for solar or backup power reserves? :wave1:

Pictures should have a description label of a 3-cell battery bank. If you pick up 3x 2V cells, the battery bank (blue frame) that holds 3 of them will come free with it for you.

I got 5 pallets of these (all wrapped in plastic and on a wooden pallet), each pallet contains 4 of these 3-cell battery banks (stacked). Technically, each pallet would be 24V 660AH rated and weighs almost 700kgs. Opened one up to have a look and check charge on the cells. Seems to be no problem (ie. they hold charge), but you're welcome to come and test them out yourself.

I did a bit of a lookup and cheapest online 2V 600AH cell ONLY was going for A$390 over Eastern States. They've been in storage at our offices and they've never been installed or used.

I'm keen to get into aquaponics, and would be happy to sell these or look to swap for cash plus credit on equipment for IBCs/GB+stands/fish. Heck, if anyone's a brickie or sparkie by trade, I'll also be happy to swap for services to Perth SOR.

PM me if anyone interested. Local pickup - Perth SOR, WA (ie. you pickup) only.

Sorry I mean 6V 660AH Battery Bank :) 3 x 2V = 6V :)
[couldn't do my maths this early in the morning]

Well, if it doesn't go, I might get to have the lot... I think the Minister of Finance will be self promoted to the Minister of War :notworthy: when I bring the gear to the new place. I've seen how big these cells / battery banks are, and I think I'll have to get a dedicated outdoor shed to put this lot in!

Was initially planning on just keeping 12V - 660AH = 2 banks of 3 cells.. at least I can get peace of mind on keeping the FT aerated and GBs flowing :thumbleft: .

I'm interested in 24V worth but not sure at the moment how much they would be worth to me, i need to do some research.

Were they stored with a charger on them or dry ie no acid?
Could see manufactured 0006 which would indicate they are 6 years old.

If they have been sitting in a store room with acid/no charge all this time they will probably be partially stuffed. Being 660Ah they will probably still have a decent capacity but it would likely not reach full charge no matter how much your charger outputs.

WOW, its too bad you are not close to me...

I would love to try my big 48 strand Bedini SSG battery charger on a 12 or 24 V bank of these babys, cause at 24V these babys could run your whole house nearly all the time......

Thanks for the feedback RS. Yeah, I'm not sure. They were all wrapped up in plastic pallets, and was going through the office store, and bumped into them. So they wouldn't have a charger on them, but put a multimeter on and got a reading.

As I'm not a battery expert, I can't tell yet how good they are. WYSIWYG I guess. :)

ROFL :laughing3: I don't think even at full capacity they'd have enough power to run my place. Typical family home here sucks up a heckofalotta power especially with A/C running over the summer months.

Run your aquaponics equipment probably ... so long as your charger kicks in every so often.

:funny1: ROFL, yes I don't deliver (free or otherwise) to brisbane. You're welcome to come pick it up though, I hear it's a blast driving across the country :wave1:

Funny though, there's a chap in QLD asking me for delivery to QLD :) after 24V worth.
He's not you, is he? :laughing3:

heh, nope not me :D

we move house every 12 months (i dont know why yet) so adding those suckers to my inventory "good stuff" would ensure my prompt death, either at the hands of my wife or maybe trapped under one of those batteries ;)

Well, for my own interest sake, I did a quick lookup, and found the following info online.
SunGel 2V 650AH Cell with 3yr warranty - $710
Sonnenschein 2V 600AH Cell - $795

So, a new 24V of cells only would cost : 12 x $710 (cheapest) = $8,520
(excluding the metal frame and mounts, connectors etc.)

These on offer are not brand new with warranties etc, but have not been used, and kept in storage, supposedly they have a 20yr lifespan, and all connected up for 24V use. Someone's called up for 24V too (equivalent to 1 pallet), so I'll detail the same here.

24V Battery Bank : 1000 (H) x 700 (W) x 600 (D)
Sitting on a Pallet : 900 x 810 x 100.
Weight : 700kgs excl wooden pallet.

Accessible by hand pallet truck to remove.

Accepting all offers for consideration at this point. Been sitting for this long, not going to matter if they sit for a few years more.

PS. however, I am hoping to take a half pallet (12V) back to my place (fingers crossed).

Hi all,

A QLD gent cam forward and bought 4 pallets (24V per pallet) of these solar battery banks. He's arranging for transport all the way east now. I think he got a great deal, he reckons he did anyway. (he did his research and confirmed for himself these were kosher - as if I'd lie  )

Sorry Glenn :support: , thanks for the call though.

I've got the remaining 24V pallet, of which, I'm hoping to use half of it for a 12V backup supply. (see in another thread under Electrical section)

The last half pallet (ie. 2 banks of 6V) is available if anyone wants it. Last pallet will come with bus bar connectors, but not with the beefy terminal ends (I'm using them meself  ). They're still bloody heavy!

I've done my bit for the faceless men in management :headbang: , so I'm going to collect on my 12V and maybe they might let me get the whole 24V if they forget it about them in the next few months. :laughing3: :laughing3:

aquanoob (zapped with 12V - yippee! :thumbright: )
