Post subject:  Victorian source for silver perch and murray cod

Lyndsay & Glynis from Kangaroo Ground Fish Farm were at the victorian AP meet at Food and Fish's place today.

I was talking to Lyndsay and he said that they had silver perch available in quantities of 50 or so and 300gram murry cod at $5 each

There are only 300 of the cod left so be quick (hold at least one for me lyndsay! ;))

Lyndsay has also offered to on sell 20 (25?) kg bags of food to us, taking some of the pressure off finding fish food!

He also gave some of us a very informative explaination on how the murray cod are bred and the sort of work that goes into raising the fry to fingerlings.

Here’s another supplier in Victoria… Wartook Native Fish Culture...Wartook Victoria

might have got lost in this thread…

Silver Perch Supplier

Quote:
From their homepage :

Our fingerlings are grown to a minimum of 50 mm for Silver's, Golden's, Bass and Estuary Perch. 60 mm for Cod and 80 mm for Catfish.

He will do minimum orders of 50 fish, with guaranteed sizes as above, for prices of ...

Price List

which include GST, plus freight costs

So that's 50mm Silver Perch @ $0.66 each plus freight.

Has Australia Bass and Murray Cod amongst others….

Species Offered

He seems interested in the concept of what we are doing.

To date he says they have only shipped to Victoria (I gather that they are a relatively new enterprise)... but he is quite willing to ship anywhere.

WA and QLD might be able to do better locally or with our friends @ livingfish but for SA ,VIC, TAS, ACT & NSW they might be worth considering.

Mentioned that some members had experienced problems with "ICH" ...
(he immediately named the suspect(s)) and stated that all fish supplied were guaranteed "ICH" free...

Suggested that while he probably couldn't discount small order prices any lower that if any member of "Backyard Aquaponics" was to quote this forum when ordering 100+ he would "see what he could do"...

Any order (combined) of 1000+ would be definitley negotiable.

Doesn't offer "Jades" at this time and says that the "Golden Perch" have proved problematical with regard to training to take pallets....

Bass, Murray Cod ... suggested growth rates were slow...

Tandanus... no problems

No water... probably means hes got no fish then either.

Didn't mention that when I talked to him last week....

Did mention that his modem and PC got hit by a lightning strike last week or surged during the power outages
