I just the bag off Rupert yesterday but i think these might be too big for my trout.

Does anyone in NSW want to swap my 7mm for some 5mm trout feed? Looking for 10kg or so.

Mate I wouldn't worry, I just purchased some more 5mm since that is what my trout have been consuming however the guy I got it off reckons his have been on 7mm since about 100mm in size and are averaging 600gms now. Wish I had some 7mm!

You serious? How the heck can a 100mm trout eat 7mm?

Do they need time to adjust to eating the bigger pellet?

you will find they need time to adjust to any change in pallet... if u can thow some orig food into the tank then the new feed i found that worked for me.

I went from ridly to lauke then to skretting over 3 months. there was a good week between each til they hit it properly

AH thanks Jamey.

I think i went from 2mm ridly to 7mm skretting so there is a big change :)

I did chuck in some original 2mm and i think some of the bigger fish ate the 7mm but there was still probably 95% of the big pellets floating after 10 mins.

If it takes time for them to adjust i dont mind the 7mm then :)

Jezz Hui... your trout should be 200mm+... not 100mm...

Like I said to you on the phone.... introduce a handful of the 7mm pellets... mixed with the smaller stuff...

The bigger trout will snap the bigger pellets... and the smaller trout will get the smaller pellets that drop through....

Increase the proportion of the 7mm... as the trout get used to it... and grow...

I've been feeding my trout the 7mm for about two weeks... never missed a beat and took to it stright away...

We got the 7mm... because

There weren't enough orders to justify buying a tonne from Ridleys
People couldn't make up their minds whether or not to buy any... until the last minute...
Skreetings didn't have the 5mm in stock
And the 5mm doesn't have the colouring agent.. whereas the 7mm does

You need to crank the feed into the trout Hui... or you wont get them to size before the water warms...

You should be feeding at least twice a day.... three times a day if you can...

Thats cos i bought it all hahaahahah (Well probably not but i did get 10 bags :)

5mm Sinking does have beta carodine in it too :) As long as its the Spectra not the Nova

My jades & silvers went from 2mm ridley (Expensive Feed) to the 3mm Nova and they even took a good week before they got used to eating it, I find the Skretting feed to have a really pungent fishy smell this is probably why they are weary of it to start with.

But just as rupe said Mix it up they will learn... i even starved mine for a few days then threw a handfull of ridly 2mm in and then straight after that the Skretting... they will get the hang of it.

Thanks Rupert, my short term memory is pretty bad :D

My trout should be 200mm or so (i dont have a bigger net to get one to check). I have tried this morning and i can see the trout giving it a crack hehehe. Some grab it then let go whilst some get it whole.

They definitely still prefer the 2mm but hopefully i can get them slowly onto the 7mm :) Or if they dont i will starve them for a day or 2 to wet their appetite :D

I lost 5 trout when introducing the 7mm up from 2mm. A pallet got lodged in a trouts mouth and when he went belly up 4 others went out in sympathy (or shock).

That was my experience anyway. :naughty:
