Not to sure about reusing Hydroton that has been used elsewhere , is that perhaps asking for troubles ?

No trouble reusing hydroton IMHO. Hydroponics users even sterilise between crops so that can be done if deemed to be necessary.

I know where it has been used and Mitch wouldn't have used anything that I would consider harmful so I would have no hesitation reusing it, but thats just me.

Yep, I use a GB full of used hydroton from BYAP and haven't had a problem. I'd be totally happy using Mitch's as well !
