Onya simmo_77

First seller contact details provided.

The subject has certainly digressed, but still very interesting.
I have not much time on computer Today but will come back with some info on my study of RO before I purchased.

Cheers All Gaza

Very sorry I forgot- Thank you very much to RupertofOZ
Very interesting and usefull information.

I may move towards semi organic hydro in the future incorporating AP,
at present I use xClay in net pots with a very small amount of Oasis media as the starter. Absolute min of material usage, max reusable.

Come on AJ, fair dinkum,

1kg is a unit of Mass (kg) the other is a unit of Volume (liquid measure, Litre)
Just because water has a density of 1kg per Litre, doesn't mean that 1kg of feathers occupies the same space!
The basic metric system has water at 1kg per litre, and 1 cubic metre of water has a mass of 1000 kg, so it follows that there are 1000 litres of water per cubic metre!!!
The density of water is taken as being 1.0. Density means kg/cubic metre.
Feathers have a density of about 200grams per cubic metre (uncompressed) so they float!!!!
Cork has a density less than water, so it floats. Lead has a density greater than water, so it sinks!
You must learn to differentiate between mass, volume and density. And remember that mass isn't the same as weight!!!
Sorry for the diatribe, but there is a difference!!!

Cheers IanK

 ... only intended to highlight a "typo"...

But it is important to distinquish between the two measurements... particularly when relating to growbed media filtration capacity (litres)... and actual growbed media weight... where an understanding of the total combined weight of the media and water need to be considered when designing the growbed stands/supports...

This place has 150l bulk buy for $105, which works out to be $35 per 50l. Or $38.50 for 50l, $10 for 10l or $21 for 25l.
They will also deliver, but costs (not sure how much, but i know it varies by how big your order is and where you are etc)

Hydroponic solutions

Prices in Houston, TX, USA
German Hydroton: $30 a bag, $25 in quantity of 10 or more
Expanded Shale: $10 a bag or $99 a cubic yard (.77 cubic metre)

The bags are the same volume or pretty close (30l or a cubic foot).

Expanded Shale is pH neutral, porous, irregular shaped and smaller than the leading brand expanded clay product.
It's produced a LOT closer to me than the Hydroton is...

Happy New Year, y'all!

Rick
