Owning a fish farm and buying the food at a tonne at a time is the norm. I am aware of a few growers who tried to "make their own food". The fish didnt die but the growth for effort wasnt there either. If you are interested I can sell a various range of naive fish food sizes (crumb,2mm,3mm,4mm and 6mm) at $4/kg or $80/25kg bag ex Jamberoo (near Wollongong). Email me if you interested. Careful about the amount of feed you give. An FCR of 1.2 is a great result but you must only feed as fish require it. Water temperature is the best controller for fresh water fish. Cant be sure about barra etc but with Silvers and Goldern perch you get below 18C feed rates need to drop. At 14C and less were talking about twice per week. John

If your in QLD or NSW I would give hey U a call 0734200870 and see if they can order smaller amounts. Ya may need an abn or something. But ya they usually do less than ton amounts.
First though I would try contact ridleys and say you are getting some people together can they send you a SAMPLE pack so everyone can see what they are ordering.
These sample packs are handy as all the mm/LC/SC and stuff can be confusing... makes more sense when you have little bags of it carded going up the sizes.
If you do find yourself with lots left over you can seal it up with those guilotine heat sealers and packs of the bags they seal. A pet shop may even be happy to go in on a buy with you and increase the variety of sizes you buy.
You may find if you buy from a supplier like hey you that you can 'make up' a pallet with other animal produce. So if you know people with birds or chooks or horses you may be able to yea make a saving on a full pallet.

Oh ya beware of weevils getting into it.... and rats/mice as their poo is impossible to pick out... eww

Im in Brisbane and would be interested my silver perch eat small sinking pellets and my jade eat 6mm floating so i will be after 2 bags
