When I initially set up my system 2 years ago I tried to reduce the cost by using blue metal chips in the bottom of my grow beds with expanded clay on top (never again!! :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: ).

Over time the 2 layers got mixed up & I recently decided to remove the blue metal. This has been the most ridiculously tedious job ever.... sorting 1000L of gravel by hand!!!

Anyway. I have got around 250 litres of blue metal in buckets that anyone can have for FREE!!! This may suit a newbie wanting to start a system on the cheap (plenty of bacteria to kick start cycling).

Alternatively you may just need chips for some concrete work, although I have to point out the gravel contains a minimum but still present amount of organic root material.

All I ask of any takers is bring your own trailer or buckets as I want to keep mine. Take the lot or take a little. I have another 100 litres to come also over the next week or two from the remaining bed to be sifted through.

Ouch, sounds painful sorting that much gravel. You've got more patience than I would.

If you're doing more, I'd put it into a big crate/bucket, and shake it around, the heavier gravel will fall to the bottom, and the clay should stay at the top. Might make it a little easier.
