I have set up my first system using a bath tub and want to keep yabbies'. I have posted here for barter but no joy. I contacted 2 people on gum tree advertising but no joy either(they didn't call back despite several messages left and even talking to one guy). I can only think that as we only want 10, as this is all our system can support we have been told, its just not worth the effort. Getting desperate now! Is there anyone on here who can sell us some yabbies'? We want 10 and are in Glen Forrest but happy to travel.
Thanks
Rue : )

Hi Rue, try ringing your biggest local fish supplier, as in eating fish like Kailis or similar. They often sell yabbies by the kg and they are all live, generally much cheaper than ornamental type suppliers, and they are usually really large.

How would I go sending them from Sydney...?

I have some TINY ones... could pack them in wet wood shavings...

I would have thought you would have been looking for Marion

Btw... I started with ten in an aquarium ...And as they grew, they were vanishing one-by-one...finally there were just three..
One male and two females... and soon many dozens of minute babies...
Took me about six months to get to the point of having seeding stock...
..

Hi Rue
I will be in Perth next weekend
can bring you a few down - do you want mixed sex ?
these are about 3 months old and about 25 - 30 mm long
I am coming down from Dally and can come through Glen Forrest
don't quite know times yet as it depends on work on Friday.

BuiDoi - the Sydney ones will be illegal in WA I think
You will probably have Cherax destructor.
We are only allowed C. Albidus or the local Gilgies or Koonacs

If John's giving you the option, I would suggest getting all males. Maybe get a couple of females for breeders, but keep them separate, in an aquarium etc, and throw one of the lucky lads in there for a few days every now and then.
