I rembember that one of the member's systems was running a grow-bed that was continually flooded. Who was that and how is that going?

Edit: I think people will have no idea what I am talking about here. Somebody had a gravel filled grow-bed that always had water in it at a constant level (ie flooded) with continuous replenishment via a continuos inflow and outflow of water. I had something similar going by accident when I had my small gorw-bed, in that the drain had clogged with roots meaning that it would only drained as quickly as the inflow once the water got to a high level in the bed (the height of the water forcing the water to flow more quickly). My toms grew fine through that period - I used to liken it to DWC wtih gravel. The roots would have been water roots - yet they had the support of the gravel.

This is pretty much what the other person was doing (I on the onterh had was drainign from the bottom - something you would not try to replicate). I am embarrassed I cannot remember who it was - a regular I think. Remember they had two beds - one was continuous flow and one was continuously flooded - the second seemed to be doing a little better.

I have a recollection of me telling them it would not work very well because of lack of DO and no doubt other things. Then of course I did it accidentally (this was months back) and it seemed to be fine - for the short time I had it that way.

Well done Jaymie - that's what I was looking for. It is TimC. Timbo - how is the continuously flooded, continuous flow system going?

My pond has been running like that for years (by design!). I have only ever put water hyacinth in it, though. I added a schematic to that thread for clarity.

VB... It was going OK... decided there was not enough sun, plus the top pond had a leak so I have it turned off atm. I had no issues with it so far. I am moving it to a better loaction onece the shed is finished so I can get a better idea then.. The lettuces never formed a 'ball' but they had significantly more growth over the f&d.

my lettuces are not forming heads either. I am pretty sure lack of light is the problem
