Warning about galv pipes, they don't it 'em like they use too.

Seen galv pipes laid in the 1960s being replaced in about 2000/2001. Some on that new galv piping had rusted out by the start of 2005! Piping was above ground, part of a windmill.

The plumbing shop the sold the replacement pipe had the same problem with galv piping they had laid in 2001. Theirs had had a cement slab (foot path) laid over it. Not a happy chappy!

When we brought the replacement gear, we got brass fitting and hoped the the galv piping made in 2004 was of better quality than that made in 2000/2001! Else we will be replacing it again in about 2008.

Hi i bet its and old house where the electricity earth is hooked to the water pipe even in a new house its got to do with static electricity we had the same trouble on the farm

Same situation, old piping lasted 30 to 40 years. New piping lasted fourish years.

Stand alone windmill, by dam, so static could be the only factor? Wander why this decade is more staticy than last century was?

Don't know what the setup at the shop was.

F&F do you mean static or earth leakage?

This is why if you ever disconnect your water mains in OLDER houses(or other water pipes that connect to the man feed into the ground to be pedantic) the correct proceedure is to connect some type of jumper lead across the section you are undoing. People have been elctrocuted due to earth currents from faulty appliances that were conducted to ground via the water mains for decades until their left and right hands formed the circuit after they pulled the pipes apart that they had just disconnected. True story. The boss even had to supply a "jumper lead" when he went for his restricted (connect disconnect) plumbing licence.

it only takes 30mA or so to cause "issues" with your heart. Issues incluse things like death.

I think you will find its stattic i worked with an old windmill bloke for a wile he allways said never bo up the joints to tight because you will allways have to undo then with in 2 years

if you use brass fittings with gal pipe you get electrolosis happening and the gal pipe will rust and the bore of the pipe will be reduced at the fitting it happens all the time. If you try to run hot water through a gal pipe it starts corroding even quicker.
